Two Things

1. Been very busy this year and have not seen most of the movies that are Oscar contenders. There are so many to see before the Oscars ceremony, but I know I can see them all! Once I have, I will weigh in on my faves.

2. PISSED OFF! I just looked at an Oscar buzz website and they have Hailee Steinfeld as a contender for Best SUPPORTING Actress. That is ridiculous! She was THE lead and deserves a Best Actress nod.

...and scene.

True Grit brings me back to blogging!

My last post was on February 14th and the next day I was in a car accident. My priorities shifted a bit. Lots of great things have happened since then and I am happy to have some time to post something again!

TRUE GRIT! It inspired me to post after all this time. What a great movie by, of course, the Coen brothers. Hailee Steinfeld's Best-Actress-Oscar-nomination-worthy performance as Matty Ross was perfect. Amazing casting job by Ellen Chenowith! Along with the spectacular screenplay and acting, the cinematography and soundtrack were beautiful.

Check out the website and definitely check out the movie!

The Untouchables

I always forget how great the Untouchables was. It is on AMC right now. So many great things about this movie:

1. It is possibly the best meeting of two characters (Costner and Connery scene)

2. Definitely the best death scene on film. (Connery)

3. Possibly the best matching of score to era and action of scenes. Funny, some of the music reminds me of what Tarantino used in Inglourious this past year!

4. Possibly the best tense action scene ever...the stairs with the baby in the carriage.

There is probably more that I can't think of right now. I hate watching it with commercials! BOO!

What a film!

Disappointment and Pleasure

Disappointment:
I cannot believe that Avatar beat out Inglourious and Hurt Locker for Best Drama on the Golden Globes last night. Can you even characterize Avatar as a drama? I have already shared my thoughts on all three films in my previous blog entries, so I will not repeat them here. My dream come true...Avatar snubbed for an Oscar Best Picture nomination. I would be SO psyched!! It won't happen though.

Pleasure:
At least the Golden Globes got things right with Christoph Waltz!

Recent Movies

Sherlock Holmes (3 out of 5): Tried too hard to be clever and funny, but I love Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law is eye candy!

It's Complicated (4 out of 5): Our friend from the Office was the funniest part of the movie. Clever and fun flick.

Brothers (4 out of 5): I am a big Jim Sheridan fan! Intense and flew by.

Invictus (4 out of 5): It was great, but the sound was messed up in the theater so you couldn't hear the dialogue well in crowd scenes. My favorite parts involved the local impact, his security guards more than the global impact which was powerful too.

Avatar (2 out of 5): It was o.k. I guess I am alone on this one. The effects don't do much for me, it was a bit preachy too. I liked the lead actor and Zoe Saldana did a great job. Favorite part was the "connection" between the natives and the animals. That was cool.

Did You Hear About the Morgans (1 out of 5): Hugh Grant wasted is an understatement! I went to see it because the reviews said it was such a train wreck. Wanted to see it for myself.

Up in the Air (4 out of 5): An enjoyable film, but not the masterpiece it is being sold as for Oscar buzz.

I would like to see The Road, but it is only playing at 12:15 AM in Woburn!! AH!
